Construction of the Buzovna Juma Mosque began in 1896, but stopped halfway through in 1900. Although construction resumed in 1918, it was still left unfinished. This half-completed mosque was used as a warehouse and a shop during the Soviet era in Azerbaijan.
In 2007, the people of Buzovna asked the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, to restore and complete the Juma Mosque. The request was quickly acted upon. The restoration work commenced in February the same year and was completed on schedule. The mosque reopened for worship on December 19, 2009. The opening ceremony was attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Mehriban Aliyeva.
